Spelling Bee

Rising Star Academy proudly hosts its Annual School Spelling Bee for students in Grades KG–8.
This exciting academic tradition promotes vocabulary development, confidence, public speaking skills, and a lifelong love of language. The competition is held exclusively for RSA students and culminates with our champion advancing to represent RSA at the Hudson County Spelling Bee Championship.

Competition Structure

The Spelling Bee is conducted in three rounds:

In-Class Round

The top 5 finalists per grade advance to the next level of competition.

In-School Round

The top finalists per level compete in a school-wide event. The top three spellers from Levels Four and Five advance to the Final Round.

Final Round – Bee Level Championship

Students compete using an expanded word list (including definitions).
The Top 3 spellers from Levels Four and Five compete for:

🥇 1st Place – RSA Spelling Bee Champion
🥈 2nd Place
🥉 3rd Place

The 1st Place winner represents Rising Star Academy at the county championship.

Spelling Bee Levels

  • Level One Bee: KG

  • Level Two Bee: 1st & 2nd Grades

  • Level Three Bee: 3rd & 4th Grades

  • Level Four Bee: 5th & 6th Grades

  • Level Five Bee: 7th & 8th Grades

 

All students in KG–8 are encouraged to practice their word lists and prepare confidently.

Spelling Bee Rules Overview

  • The competition is conducted in rounds; each speller spells one word per round.

     

  • Students must face the judges and speak clearly and confidently.

     

  • SAY THE WORD, SPELL THE WORD, SAY THE WORD.

     

  • Before spelling, students may request a definition, sentence, part of speech, language of origin, alternate pronunciation, or repetition.

     

  • Judges’ decisions are final.

     

  • Elimination procedures continue until a champion is declared.

 

At Rising Star Academy, the Annual Spelling Bee is more than a competition — it is a celebration of academic excellence, perseverance, and student achievement.
